Expressions of interest invited to host a touring exhibition about Womens’ Suffrage

2028 marks the centenary of the Equal Franchise Act, which granted women the right to vote on the exact same terms as men and established universal adult suffrage by lowering the voting age for women from 30 to 21.

The National Portrait Gallery is developing a new touring exhibition celebrating the visionary activists and early leaders who catalysed the global ‘Votes for Women’ movement in the early decades of the 20th century. The exhibition will cover suffragette action in the period leading up to the First World War, celebrating the increased agency of women after 1928 within political, professional and artistic fields. This expansive exhibition will not only connect with national curriculum themes, but it will offer an opportunity to include locally relevant stories of suffragettes or other trailblazing women who led the cause in your community. The NPG is inviting expressions of interest from potential venues who have locally relevant stories or content that could connect with the key themes of the exhibition.
